Organized (or unorganized for that matter) religion builds communities, which is what makes moral behavior successful; and provides the cultural myth that gives legitimacy and purpose to said communities, which is what allows moral people to defend themselves and prosper.
If God didn't exist, it would be necessary to invent him. Humans evolved religiosity for a reason.
If we didn't already hate people who were different from us, it would be necessary invent reasons to hate other people. Human evolved deep-seated fear of slight variation for a reason!

ReplyDeleteIf we have a good heart, can feel empathy and compassion for the less fortunate, and act accordingly, we are moral.
If not, we are amoral.

And prejudice towards other races, genders, beliefs, ages, and income levels is great, because every culture has it, ergo it is necessary...
