We Have Redefined Our Liabilities As Assets And Declared Victory

Like with our deteriorating educational system, our economy no longer measures up to previous standards of performance. In education, you can see the difference through comparison to a century old Jr. High School test that I believe would stymie most of today’s college graduates. Our economic deterioration can be seen in our high trade deficits, big budget deficits, high public and private debt levels and the explosion in the number of people who rely on government assistance be it in the form of welfare, food stamps, or disability.

However, according to many economists, none of this is cause for concern as it is simply the way things work in our new “consumer-based,” “service-sector,” economy. Instead of growth through savings, capital investment, and production, we now rely on money printing, asset bubbles, leverage, and consumer credit. Inflation, which was once acknowledged as being bad, is now considered good. An open message to those who favor the redistribution of income and wealth:

Why are you wasting your time on political action? If you favor redistribution, you hold the power in your own hands. Write a check, open your wallet; sell your possessions and give the proceeds to someone who deserves your wealth more than you do.

Of course, chances are excellent that this is not the sort of redistribution you favor -- if it were, you would already be engaging in it, as many less "progressive" people are. No, chances are that you favor not coughing up your own wealth, but having thugs -- aka the state -- steal and extort on your behalf and give some of the loot to people you would like to get it. And, mirabile dictu, you would like to have everyone think well of you for your criminal "compassion." It's very sad that so many people's morality has sunk to such an abysmal low.-Robert Higgs

It is tempting to think about government transfers in a simple way: one person, taxpayer T, loses a certain amount of money; another person, recipient R, gains the same amount; and everything else remains the same. When people look at income redistribution in this way, they tend to make a judgment about the desirability of the transfer simply by considering whether T or R is the more deserving. Commonly, especially when the issue is discussed in the news media or by left-liberal politicians, R is portrayed as a representative of the poor and downtrodden and T as a wealthy person or a big corporation. Opponents of the transfers then appear callous and lacking in compassion for the less fortunate.

You’re free to leave America. Well… As long as you’re willing to do exactly what they want you to do. Every border in the United States of America is guarded. If you’re within 100 miles of any border, the government can do virtually whatever it wants to you. Of course, the fact that you happen to walk into that zone consents to your participation.

If, you have the bold idea of using a plane to get out of the country. You’re required to go through poking and prodding of every inch of your body. No, your constitutional rights don’t apply there either. You have to be careful not to carry too much cash with you. And… God forbid… Don’t carry a full size tube of toothpaste!

Free to leave seems to have a very odd definition to some people.

Oh… And let’s not forget the fact that I need to get a passport. That passport costs a little over $100 (Yep… That’s free.) That passport is not even a guarantee of government. They can refuse to give me a passport for absolutely any reason they choose. If I don’t have this permission slip. They won’t let me out anyway. They can even take this passport for whatever reason they choose.

Privatize the CIA and NSA

I mean Roger Clemens got indicted for perjury regarding steroids.  So why not the CIA?

A report by the Senate Intelligence Committee concludes that the CIA misled the government and the public about aspects of its brutal interrogation program for years — concealing details about the severity of its methods, overstating the significance of plots and prisoners, and taking credit for critical pieces of intelligence that detainees had in fact surrendered before they were subjected to harsh techniques.

The report, built around detailed chronologies of dozens of CIA detainees, documents a long-standing pattern of unsubstantiated claims as agency officials sought permission to use — and later tried to defend — excruciating interrogation methods that yielded little, if any, significant intelligence, according to U.S. officials who have reviewed the document.

“The CIA described [its program] repeatedly both to the Department of Justice and eventually to Congress as getting unique, otherwise unobtainable intelligence that helped disrupt terrorist plots and save thousands of lives,” said one U.S. official briefed on the report. “Was that actually true? The answer is no.”

The CIA and the NSA should be treated as not a government agency but as a private organization since they clearly are not accountable to Congress and, by extension, the American people.  This means they no longer get tax money and that they should be forced to pay taxes.

This also means that the American people can decide if they want to be spied on or not by signing up for membership with these agencies, similar to an insurance program.  If an American has not signed up, then he or she is not subject to any unlawful search and seizures as they did not consent.

Or we could just prosecute the liars.

Naturally Congress won’t do either of these things because its too hard and because of some incriminating photos of Congressional bestiality.  And the kickbacks.  Don’t forget about those.
