The Tea Parties In a Nutshell

"Expand the military. Put more war profiteers on the public dole. Install more secret prisons and torture dungeons. Demolish habeas corpus. Bomb brown people--nuke them if necessary. Send Arab Americans to internment camps, just like the Japanese.

"Wiretap people's phones without warrants. Empower the national security state. Strip-search people at airports. Force citizens to carry national ID cards. Pass the Patriot Act. Demolish the Bill of Rights. Strengthen the executive branch to the point of dictatorship. Bail out corporate crooks. Let the President go to war whenever he feels like it. Give law enforcement officers more money and power.

"Use a brutal police state to round up illegal immigrants. Build a Berlin Wall across the border and shoot anyone who tries to get through. Use the state to ban abortions and flag burning. Regulate marriage and persecute gays. Wage a harsher war on drugs. Have the state execute more people through use of the death penalty. Install a theocracy.

"Oh yeah, and reduce the size of government! It's too big!"

  2. Just wondering Skep, are you just trying to generate a reaction with this diatribe, or do you really believe what you've written here?

Let me explain "tea-party" from my point of view. Those of us that I have met want a strong America that still epitomizes Liberty to the rest of the world, and allows us to increase our own liberties - not reduce them. We believe that God has a place in our lives, our communities and our country and that there is no shame in that.We want a return to a more Constitutional government, and less socialistic. We want lower taxes and smaller government. One facet of achieving that is to reduce entitlement programs - perhaps even eliminate them. There were no entitlement programs 50 years ago, so why the need for so many now? The only reason is to grow the dependency upon the government. We want to get back to the point where church and community take care of those in need, not the government with all their bureaucratic waste. We want, most of all I think, elected officals who are not career politicians, and therefore will do what's right for their constituents and their country - instead of looking to see where their next vote is coming from and try to appease that person. We want an end to corruption in Washington. We want an end to the 50-year slide towards socialism. We are the most peaceful assemblies of civil disobedience you've ever seen or read about. I don't know how old you are, but remember the Rodney King riots in LA? Or the Chicago riots? Or the radicals from the 60's? See any difference? Hmmm, leftist rallies and tea party rallies. Yep, there's a difference!

'Bomb brown people- nuke them if necessary'? Where did that come from?

'Strenghten the executive branch to the point of dictatorship'? 'Bail out corporate crooks'? You think those are tea-party ideals? You don't know us very well, my friend.

A "brutal police state" to round up illegal immigrants? You've seen this where? I will say we do believe that illegal immigrants should be deported and allowed into the country only after they have been processed through existing immigration laws - just like America expected 40 years ago. And yes, we believe the borders should be protected and secured - much more strongly than they presently are. Do you disagree with that? If you do, take a look at all those farmers in the border towns with Mexico. How many of them should have to die before people wake up to the reality of what occurs because of porous borders?

You still have a problem with "tea-partiers"?

My comments on Hoping the Blind Will See's comment:

Let me explain "tea-party" from my point of view. Those of us that I have met want a strong America [see also: large military] that still [or someday] epitomizes Liberty to the rest of the world, and allows us to increase our own liberties - not reduce them. We believe that God has a place in our lives, our communities and our country and that there is no shame in that [no shame, just stupidity]. We want a return to a more Constitutional government [except the "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion" part], and less socialistic [except for huge military spending]. We want lower taxes [who doesn't?] and smaller government [but only under Democrats]. One facet of achieving that is to reduce entitlement programs - perhaps even eliminate them. There were no entitlement programs 50 years ago [more like 60-70], so why the need for so many now? The only reason is to grow the dependency upon the government. We want to get back to the point where church and community take care of those in need, not the government with all their bureaucratic waste [churches are efficient ways of helping the poor from gold-encrusted buildings]. We want, most of all I think, elected officals who are not career politicians, and therefore will do what's right for their constituents and their country - instead of looking to see where their next vote is coming from and try to appease that person [see also: Republicans]. We want an end to corruption in Washington [Do they have a plan for doing this? Of course not!]. We want an end to the 50-year slide towards socialism [Again... the New Deal was 60 years ago... fact check]. We are the most peaceful assemblies of civil disobedience you've ever seen or read about [you exhibit zero civil disobediance, only public pageantry]. I don't know how old you are, but remember the Rodney King riots in LA? Or the Chicago riots? Or the radicals from the 60's? See any difference?[Yes, the groups in those situations were actually being mistreated, and most were riots, not protests or demonstrations... and the 60's protests were made violent not by protesters, but the government.] Hmmm, leftist rallies and tea party rallies. Yep, there's a difference! [Yeah, you might get laid after a leftist rally. I can't imagine even WANTING to get laid at a right-wing rally]

'Bomb brown people- nuke them if necessary'? Where did that come from? [American history]

'Strenghten the executive branch to the point of dictatorship'? 'Bail out corporate crooks'? You think those are tea-party ideals? [No, they're the ideals of those who tea-partiers vote for] You don't know us very well, my friend.

A "brutal police state" to round up illegal immigrants? You've seen this where?
[Thankfully, no where but on Tea Party signs] I will say we do believe that illegal immigrants should be deported and allowed into the country only after they have been processed through existing immigration laws - just like America expected 40 years ago [when we adopted racist immigration policies which would have made Ellis Island an impossibility]. And yes, we believe the borders should be protected and secured - much more strongly than they presently are. Do you disagree with that? [Most do] If you do, take a look at all those farmers in the border towns with Mexico. How many of them should have to die before people wake up to the reality of what occurs because of porous borders? [I don't know... how many people have to die before we end our war on drugs? That is a damn good question, sir.]

You still have a problem with "tea-partiers"? [Yep]

  5. Hoping,

The whole point of Cork's post is to show how ridiculous it is that you claim to want smaller gov't and yet want to give them more power in the area of your pet peeves. Please explain how we can have a smaller gov't and yet increase the enforcement of border laws.
