I still usually keep a light on when I go to bed. It's not because I'm afraid of the dark but that I'm so used to it after years of doing so that I can't fall asleep in total darkness. I can have just a small candle going and that's fine, but complete blackness? How the hell are you supposed to find the light switch if you need to get up before morning? Is a nightlight your solution? Yeah, now it is, but back in the day, nightlights were only for "sissies". Shows how much you know, you ignorant...sorry, I don't want to drift off topic.
When I was a kid I always had to have a light on and the door open, even if it was just a crack. Parents always seem too eager to shut their children up in a dark room and leave them to fight the monsters themselves. It's not right! How do you know there are not monsters and evil things lurking in the shadows? You don't!
Children are sometimes much more aware than adults, and on this one the kids have got the grown-ups wearing dunce caps. So leave the light on (the demons hate it).
I used to have door slightly open when I was younger. Can only really sleep in complete darkness now. Plus light switched are usually in the same place, same height in every room. But I have a cell phone / Ipod by my bed anyway of necessary for some light :)
ReplyDeleteCell phones have saved me a few times in the restroom at work (it has one of those timer lights, and if you don't check it you may find yourself in total darkness when it unexpectedly shuts off with its horrifying "click", and it's harder than you might think to navigate a restroom without any light).

Yes, but you have to get up out of bed to go to the light switch. Still, I see your point.
I read in bed and then fall asleep with the light on. I keep a big bag of lemons by the bedside and I throw them until I hit the switch and turn it out when I wake up. Lemons come in handy when you have lemon trees in your backyard you must make use of them somehow!
ReplyDeleteSo I too nick don't want to get out of the bed, but the opposite problem from you, I just too lazy to turn out lights.
I always keep my hallway light on at night so there isn't a light in my bedroom, just a comforting glow ^_^
