My only problem is, from an historically theological standpoint, neither of these address the most common primitive religious belief regarding the afterlife: reincarnation. The Greeks, Romans, Persians, Egyptians, all basically all surviving Eastern religions, most original American tribes, and even newer faiths like Scientology all believe in a cyclical view of life, not a linear one. I suppose telling a strong person they may come back as a weakling would have the same effect.
