Dirty Tricks?

The founder of the Wikileaks website Julian Assange has been accused of rape in Sweden. Authorities say they have issued a warrant for his arrest. The website has said the charges are "without basis" and that they had previously been warned to expect "dirty tricks". Assange was in Sweden last week where he announced the whistleblower website is set to publish a final batch of secret documents on the war in Afghanistan.

It is a more than a little suspicious that such an accusation would come out now, right when Wikileaks is announcing a new release of documents.

US officials have called the Wikileaks disclosures, including more than 70,000 documents detailing the war in Afghanistan, as one of the biggest security breaches in American military history.
The Pentagon said this month it would be the "height of irresponsibility" if WikiLeaks went through with a new threat to publish outstanding documents it had on the Afghan war.
It wants the site to expunge all classified material from the Internet and return the material it had to the US government.
News of the warrant came as the Wall Street Journal reported that Pentagon lawyers have concluded that Wikileaks acted illegally in disclosing the military documents, and are now considering possible criminal charges.
Several officials told the newspaper that the Defence and Justice departments were now exploring legal options for prosecuting Mr Assange and others involved on grounds that they encouraged the theft of government property.-Wikileaks founder Julian Assange facing arrest over 'rape' claim

I absolutely love it! The world's largest criminal organization, the United States Government, guilty of murder and theft on the grandest scale imaginable, talks about issuing criminal charges and persecuting for theft, while its own criminal agents and assorted scumbags such as Bush and Cheney go free and live off the taxpayers. What a joke!

The above quoted article ends with some words about Messiah Obama:

Prosecuting Wikileaks would be a complex procedure, however, and expose the Obama administration to accusations of trying to stifle legitimate journalism.

Why should Obama care at this point, though? He still has no real opposition from all those who would be rioting in the streets right about now in hysterical outrage if George W. Bush was still in office doing exactly what Obama is doing now. The so-called "left" in this country is completely worthless!

Everything that comes out of this administration, from its pronouncements on the overseas front to its own unemployment numbers, is a lie: it’s all lies, all the time. Even in small matters, the default is a fib, such as in the case of the Pentagon’s denial that it was ever in touch with WikiLeaks about minimizing the alleged damage done by the next Afghanistan document dump. After all, why would WikiLeaks make up such a story? The feds just want the documents "expunged," thank you. I doubt they really believe it’s possible to "expunge" the Afghan war logs from the internet. If so, they are dumber than anyone has so far imagined. And so much for the myth that the Pentagon really cares about any danger to Afghan informants, who might be compromised by the release of more documents: Julian Assange and WikiLeaks have given them their chance to safeguard the identities of US collaborators, and the Pentagon flat out rejected it. So be it.

The feds hate WikiLeaks because they exposed the lies this administration has been putting out about how the war is going just fine: the true number of casualties, and the toll on innocent civilians, is online for all to see, and there’s more coming.-All Lies, All the Time

UPDATE: Sweden drops rape accusation against WikiLeaks founder

Swedish authorities say they have revoked an arrest warrant that had alleged rape against the founder and editor of the whistle-blowing website WikiLeaks, Julian Assange.

Assange is "no longer wanted" and "is not suspected of rape," Chief Prosecutor Eva Finne said in a statement posted on the agency's official website Saturday. He is also no longer arrested in absentia, the statement said.
