Debate: Is Atheism A Positive Force In America?

1 comment:

  1. I'm not sure I could say "atheism is a positive force for America" with a straight face, but I can honestly say religion is a negative force, especially for a nation built on the principles America depends upon.

The primary problem with religion is its rigidity. It is ludicrous that people pretend to rely upon bronze age philosophy in an era where every basic premise in the Bible has been proven to be demonstrably false. Hell, even Scientology is laughably obsolete just a few decades later, and don't even get me started on Mormons (look up: Kolob).

We need to prepare for new ideas for our new problems by disregarding old, out-dated methods. We need not forget or destroy the old, in fact, we might as well keep it on record in case our new ideas fail. However, we have become obsessed with tradition at the expense of progress.

Atheism is nothing but the shedding of religious idiocy. It is not a label that can imply anything else, least of all a lack of idiocy in general. The believe that gay people are evil can just as easily be replaced with a hatred for some other group... perhaps the religious.

Conclusion: you can believe stupid things if you're an atheist, but you have to if you're religious.
