Cheap Whiskey for Old Folks

That's right, your favorite high quality booze is out the window, old timer. Just search for the no-name brand that you suspect could kill you if you're not extra careful. Looks like once again the Federal Government doesn't give a shit about you unless you're "too big to fail". Somehow, both Bush and Obama we're willing to spend trillions to bailout the banks and huge incompetent corporations like General Motors, but when it comes to the worthless peons, the funds dry up. So this is the great promise of Social Security, that the government is not allowed to break with the nation's seniors; to allow their monthly checks to be eaten away by inflation (and just when old Bernanke is getting ready to lay more of that on all of us)? How come the Democrats would scream bloody murder every time they said the Republicans had a plan to destroy Social Security, but this back-door destruction of fixed income folks buying power is okay with Obama the Beneficent?

Seniors prepared to cut back on everything from food to charitable donations to whiskey as word spread Monday that they will have to wait until at least 2012 to see their Social Security checks increase.

The government is expected to announce this week that more than 58 million Social Security recipients will go through a second straight year without an increase in monthly benefits. This year was the first without an increase since automatic adjustments for inflation started in 1975.

"I think it's disgusting," said Paul McNeil, 69, a retired state worker from Warwick, R.I., who said his food and utility costs have gone up, but his income has not. He lamented decisions by lawmakers that he said do not favor seniors. -Seniors Brace For Social Security Freeze
