Atheism is Not a Religion

At least atheists object to it being called one. I agree it isn't a religion by any normal definition. Lack of belief in the concept of a supernatural creator doesn't make for a system of belief or philosophy. A few atheists have turned this non-belief into a crusade or life purpose, though, such as Madalyn Murray O'Hair.

The religious don't seem to truly understand the atheist position; atheism is not just religion with the polarity reversed. Atheism treats religion as a non-factor; until theists understand this, they will never be addressing our actual position.

  1. Religious people just say this to piss off atheists. They think atheists hate religion (and I guess some do), so it's just a little jab.

I think atheism is a religion, and Christianity isn't. Christianity is more of a business that specializes in hope and bullshit.
