The power to regulate is the power to control the lives of individuals who are harming no one. If it's about protecting the public, how about protecting people from economic hardship (especially in a government caused depression) by opening up to them income opportunities that they are currently prevented from pursuing because of the obstacles that the state puts in their way. You really think you're free and that you live in a free country? Then how come you need a degree and a license to cut hair?
The problem is getting worse. In the 1950s only 1 in 20 Americans needed a license from the government in order to work in their chosen occupation. Today that number is closer to 1 in 3.
Where is Bret anyway?
ReplyDeleteI miss his defense of this sort of stuff.
