Fallacy of Origins/Virtue, logical fallacy of the day

Fallacy of Origins/Virtue is a fallacy of irrelevance where a conclusion is suggested based solely on something or someone's origin rather than its current meaning or context. This overlooks any difference to be found in the present situation, typically transferring the positive or negative esteem from the earlier context.

The fallacy therefore fails to assess the claim on its merit. The first criterion of a good argument is that the premises must have bearing on the truth or falsity of the claim in question. Origins/Virtue/Genetic accounts of an issue may be true, and they may help illuminate the reasons why the issue has assumed its present form, but they are irrelevant to its merits.

From a second source:

Fallacy of Origins, Fallacy of Virtue (aka Genetic Fallacy): if an argument or arguer has some particular origin, the argument must be right (or wrong). The idea is that things from that origin, or that social class, have virtue or lack virtue. (Being poor or being rich may be held out as being virtuous.) Therefore, the actual details of the argument can be overlooked, since correctness can be decided without any need to listen or think.

How about an example:

I’ve noticed another trend among these believers in the faith of liberty and logic… they’re almost all Caucasion men from middle or upper class families.

This is the privileged liberty of those who tout rationalism. The lucky few leading charmed lives, who convince themselves (i.e. rationalize) that they deserve what they have because of all the intelligent and rational choices they made. I don’t know about you… but it doesn’t seem logical to me. What more damning evidence for the folly of this philosophical faith is there?
-The Myth of the Rational Man

What is most interesting about the Fallacy of Origins/Virtue is in the past this was the domain of racists and fundamentalist religionists. This fallacy is relatively common, yet strangely it is most common amongst the irrational fantasy based leftists politically. An endless parade of this particular logical fallacy is often the basis of the very argument made from that perspective.

Critical, logical, rational thinking requires a clear understanding of reality at it’s base, political religionists often build the base of arguments on logical fallacies, it is all too often the only way to promote and present popular yet irrational and illogical political fantasies.

The parallels in delusional thinking from political religionists and religious apologists is striking and often shocking.

  1. Bitch please, you think saying I went to college voids everything I say. You haven't made one non-fallacious comment in weeks.

  2. By the way, I have never used "I went to college" or some statement of race ot say I'm right, which is actually how your "fallacy of the day" works. Instead, I pointed out that a small portion of society seems to adhere to an idea that benefits them.

You are so seriously retarded, it just drips off you.

  3. Interesting, delusional and hateful... keep it up Bret... this stuff is more fun than a handful of firecrackers on the 4th.

And you haven’t even called me a faggot yet - run out of insults?

Calm down, Taco Bell and Carl’s Jr. may have been a bust try Burger King for a job.

Care to present any proof or just sling crap as usual - pathetic, you have my pity.

  4. Present evidence, like the rest of the article you didn't quote? You're a joke, and your pathetic attempts to imagine yourself as anything but a crusty old faggot whose time has come and gone is a waste of time.

Faggot faggot faggot. Did you cum, finally?

  7. Oh, and why don't you explain why men are better than women again? I found that fascinating.

  8. Was not trying to say that men were “better" than women only that the reality of the situation was as it was - you don’t have to like it (most of us don’t like the cruel nature of reality) you can recognize the fact you don’t like and try and fix it but you must recognize the fact first and understand why it is as it is... work on the reading comprehension the delusions are interfering.

Bret you have to stop the narcissistic delusional thinking first, fantasy is nice but fantasy does not help in analysis nor attempts to “fix” the problems (if it is an actual problem).

You are pathetic Bret, I thought you were trolling, but you must be that dense. A job my help with that frustration generated hatred. Typical posts without content other than narcissistic self aggrandizement.

The parents should seek a refund from the college and try and use it for something else - does McD's have an apprenticeship program?

Evidence is in the article, it was a clear and obvious use of Fallacy of Origins I am sorry you are just to self centered, dense, and narcissistic to understand. There was a link for others to follow, should bump up the hit count - you can thank me later.

Pick a new fantasy something soothing, possibly sexual may help.

  9. It was an observation, the discussion of the entire article is left out (several paragraphs of it prior to the quote, for instance). You are a fool and I look forward to watching you continue to be wrong.

I thought you wanted to masturbate to the thought of me beating the wife?

So what did you want Lego?

Right into fantasies about physical violence - I bet a job will help with all the pent up frustration based hatred... We all love you Lego, we want to see you get some help...

  14. Lego thinks I close to death, so I guess I should post as much as possible before the long sleep...

Was that a heart palpitation? Better get the walker out and go to the MD...

After Lego finishes masturbating to “smack the bitch” monthly and Saw XIII for the violence, I suggest taking a shower, get some clothes and find a job and that frustration will just go away... XOXO...

  15. Jobs often make the elderly not feel so useless.

Does it suck needing a Viagra to masturbate?
