Bill Bennett: Fascist Monster
This conservative scumbag served as Drug Czar under the first Bush, and was also a member of PNAC. He once noted that "if you wanted to reduce crime, you could ... abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down." Charming.
The world will be a better place when his blithering old ass drops dead.

You left out a lot of the quote and it's context.
ReplyDeleteTo be fair the context was Bill Bennett was responding to a radio caller's comments about abortion and crime this is what Bill actually said:
"But I do know that it’s true that if you wanted to reduce crime, you could — if that were your sole purpose — you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down. That would be an impossible, ridiculous and morally reprehensible thing to do, but your crime rate would go down. So these far-out, these far-reaching, you know, extensive extrapolations are, I think, tricky.
I happen to be a former "black baby" and I can't find anything about what he said that is racist or not true. However your partial quote does sound very much like something margaret sanger might have said in context.

James, even in context, can't the quote be interpreted as racist?
ReplyDeleteBennett says it would be wrong to do such a thing (although he probably dreams of a black-free America), but that if we DID eliminate black people, we'd have a lot less crime--in other words, black babies grow up to be criminals.
ROFL. What "context" would this quote possibly be OK in? He's saying that blacks are inherently more prone to crime than whites--not because of cultural problems or other issues, but solely because of RACE.

Hi SE, If remember correctly the caller was trying to justify abbortion because in his mind unwanted children especially black ones become a strain on society and abortions would help reduce crime and lessen some other burdens to society.
ReplyDeleteBill was acknowledging that what the caller said was in part true(and it is,is it not?) but Bill also told the guy "That would be an impossible, ridiculous and morally reprehensible thing to do" etc. Oh and yes some black babies do grow up to be criminals and just as the caller said and bill ackowledged in his rebuke but Bill never implied that ALL black babies grow up to be criminals.
It looks like you added more to Bill's quote but It's still not telling the whole story imo.
I'm not a Bennett fan infact this was the only time I heard his show.
I'm just for fairness and truth. For all I know he could be a racist pig, I just don't see the evidence of that in this particular case. I guess you could say that I have a skeptical eye too and I don't want it to be clouded by hate.
