Too Little or Too Much

First I was sleeping too little, sometimes just 3 or 4 hours a night, which is not healthy, but I found it unavoidable due to my desire to fill each day with as much as I could. This created a pattern of not sleeping that repeated over and over. Of course I was tired all the time, even when I didn't notice it so much. During work I found myself nearly falling asleep during meetings, and very fatigued by the middle of the workday.

That pattern now seems to have reversed itself. I get home from work and want to get to bed, meaning to get up and do something after a short "nap", but never doing do. I think I'm sleeping far more than eight hours now, but I'm not counting. Too much sleep is as bad as too little, or at least not ideal. Perhaps I'm just making up for that sleep deficit I created when I was staying up late and getting up early.

Now that my lack of sleep has been countered by an overabundance of slumber, maybe I can look forward to the perfect eight hours a night.

If I find myself unable to stick to such normality, however, I'll have to decide if losing sleep is sometimes worth it. But first I'll have to sleep on it.

  1. Excess sleep is issue I'm facing as well. However, in my case I'm sleeping for an average of 8 hours per day; 4 hours at night and 4 hours in the afternoon/evening. This terribly long "nap" is causing me a lot of problems - socially speaking. Lately I haven't been spending much time with my friends and family, and I'm only managing to see my girlfriend very briefly!
    The positive thing that I'm getting from this strange "schedule", however, is the fact that I'm having a lot of time to spend alone, reading, blogging and simply thinking!
    I'm enjoying this quality time by myself, but I'm not sure for how long I can keep on being "anti-social"..
