Energy Independence for America?

I remember writing an essay in school once, where I made the bold claim that there was more energy (I specifically at the time meant oil) in the ground that anyone imagined, and that we weren't in any danger of running out soon. Was I psychic? Because to this day, I don't know where the hell I got that notion at that young age. Maybe I was just already tuned in to "exposing the machinery of mass conformity"...

Many analysts expect that in the coming decade the US will leapfrog Saudi Arabia and Russia to become the world’s largest producer of liquid hydrocarbons...Already, America has cut the share of its oil consumption met by imports from more than 60 per cent in 2005 to 47 per cent last year.-Pendulum Swings On American Oil Independence
