The news is filled with stories of the troops in Afghanistan away from their families for Thanksgiving. Obama even called some military personnel from the different branches to thank them for their service and wish them a happy Thanksgiving. But on this day we should never forget that the US military has no business in Afghanistan or any other foreign country. There is no reason for anyone in the military to be away from his family on Thanksgiving. It is the pilots, nurses, taxi drivers, and convenience store clerks in the US that we should thank for their service on this day.-Laurence Vance: Thanksgiving and the Troops
I was up at a supermarket today (getting my turkey hot dogs for my feast) and the store was staying open until 9PM on Thanksgiving! As I walked by one of the market's employees in the back of the store, he was saying to another customer that he had 7 hours to go on his work shift. Yes, he is certainly much more a hero on a holiday than the troops of an evil empire being served Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings.
