Abort Internet Explorer

Some Blogger sites (including possibly this one) are not opening in IE7. The following message is received: Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site. Operation aborted.

I have removed some recent changes I made to the sidebars, and on my computer it seems for the moment to have fixed the problem, but with IE you can never be sure. Microcrap offers their usual excuses, blaming the web sites instead of their shitty browser (see also here) and claim the problem is fixed in IE8, which they urge you to upgrade to. But why is this problem nonexistent in Firefox and Chrome, the two browsers I use most?

For more on this issue see here and here. And while you're at it, if you aren't already using something other than IE, download Firefox or Chrome.

  1. It seems to be caused by the Add A Friend element. I took that out of my blog and now I can access it through IE7. When I click on a link to your blog, it gave me that "ABORT" window too. I only got after refreshing twice. Might be your Friends element...might not ;-P.

  2. Yes, it seems to be, but is it? I suppose I can remove it, but that isn't really a good option, as the Follow element is very popular with Blogger users.

I could try it on a temporary basis, I suppose, and then restore it when and if the problem is fixed, but since IE7 is the real culprit, that might never happen.

Also, I've had it on my blog for a while now, but the problem only surfaced recently. Does anyone know why that would be?

    Thanks Gennita for the comment.

  3. My computer sort of forced me to get IE8 during a scheduled update and it's a piece of crap, I still get the abort message. I should switch browsers, but I'm just so used to IE, it would be scary.

  4. Hi Jessica,

Thanks for stopping by (and following). So, you have IE8 and are still having a problem?

Don't be scared of trying a new browser, I too was only used to IE when I finally decided to try something different. You can keep IE and still download an alternate browser such as Firefox or Google's Chrome.

  6. Yeah, I have IE8. I've noticed that the sights with tons of ads are the ones that shut down on me, so it's just as well.

I'm glad to find your blog. Love nonconformists!

  7. I didn't switch to Firefox until last January, in large part because I thought you had to have one browser or the other and didn't realize you could have multiple browsers. Once I figured out that wasn't the case, I finally changed and I've never looked back. I can't imagine any scenario under which I would return to IE. Nor have I found a single category in which it beats Firefox. It's like night and day.
