Star Trek: The Next Degeneration 2

Though there may be some Star Wars/Star Trek confusion, perhaps when all those gigantic yellow letters sent into space by a "galaxy far, far away" finally arrive here the truth of the statement "I knew Star Trek was better than Star Wars" will become obvious, and clear up any remaining confusion.

In the meantime, I'm still reading Spock, Messiah! which doesn't mean I'm a slow reader (though I'm not necessarily a fast one) but only that I'm reading about ten or twelve books at once, which is my usual practice. I'm not sure what my next Star Trek novel will be after I finish with Messiah, but I've got my eye on one I saw at Barnes and Nobel called Troublesome Minds, which looks as if it has Spock again succumbing to the influence of another powerful mind.

After watching that, I don't think a micro-sized Enterprise could have saved the day.

Star Trek: The Next Degeneration

I've been reading some old Star Trek novels I had packed away in the garage. I'm not much for that sort of novel based on television shows, but I'm hooked on these Star Trek ones now. I'm in search of more, especially out of print titles. I found one called Spock, Messiah! that I bought new. It's been in mothballs for who knows how long, and I'm just reading it now. It's a pretty good story, actually. A little controversial at the time for its sexual overtones, but the idea of implants to give crew members investigating a planet a direct link to the minds of the more primitive natives is interesting. For a neat site on just about every Trek book ever published, both fiction and non-fiction, check out The Complete Starfleet Library.

And, since I'm in a Star Trek mood, here are a couple of fun videos:

Imagine No Religion Or Politics

Roddenberry famously distrusted organized religion. And, he wanted to portray a society that had transcended the pains of political squabbles.

Saturday Mormon Cartoon

In olden times, kids would get up early on Saturday mornings and make their own breakfast (cold cereal and milk) and sit in front of the TV for hours watching cartoons (Mom and Dad happily snoring away in another part of the house). Today, Saturday is nothing special when it comes to television programming and cartoons are available 24/7 on numerous cable channels.

Today, I present a cartoon for your Saturday viewing pleasure. It looks like it was made in the sixties or seventies. It is a presentation of Mormon beliefs, and I can't say for certain that it is completely accurate in portraying those beliefs, but from what I know of them, it seems close to the truth.

And of course, Saturday morning wasn't complete without those toy commercials. Here are some 70s era Star Trek toy ads:
